Knox Porteus and his family have been farming for generations. His grandfather purchased the original farm, and they have expanded over the years to grow corn and soy and to raise cattle. His presence is quiet and pragmatic, grounded in the cycles of planting and harvesting. In contrast to the vast rolling fields viewed from hilltops that we have seen often in this project, the view he chose to share with us was the same sort of view I choose instinctively in my work: protected, with a low vantage point, a quiet corner of a private field.
